What to Expect From Your Impression Kit

Your at-home impression kit is designed to capture the shape of your teeth so a custom appliance can be fabricated from an accurate model.

What to Expect From Your Impression Kit
Helpful note: This educational guide does not replace instructions from your dentist, orthodontist, or other treating dental professional. Always follow appliance-specific directions provided with your order.

Before you begin

Read the instructions completely before opening or mixing impression materials. Work at a clean table with a mirror, timer, clean hands, and all kit components within reach.

  • Confirm which arch or arches you need to capture.
  • Dry-fit the tray before mixing material.
  • Keep the instructions visible during the process.
  • Do not begin until you have enough uninterrupted time.

Check the tray fit

The tray should fit over your teeth without forcing it. Your teeth should sit comfortably inside the tray rather than pressing against the sides. If the tray clearly does not fit, contact support before taking the impression.

Taking the impression

Mix and load the material exactly as directed in your kit. Seat the tray in one controlled motion and hold it steady for the instructed time. Do not chew, rock, or repeatedly reposition the tray while the material sets.

If you experience difficulty breathing, significant gagging, or another concerning reaction, remove the tray and stop. Contact your dental provider or support before attempting again.

Review the result

A usable impression should capture the full tooth surfaces and surrounding detail requested by the kit instructions without major voids, pulls, or tray exposure in critical areas. If photo review is offered, send the requested images before mailing the impression.

Pack and return it safely

Follow the kit instructions for packaging. Keep the impression protected from crushing, extreme heat, and contamination. Use the supplied or recommended shipping method and retain your tracking information.
